Walking alongside deadly futures
Over the past two months, we have run three Try‑a‑Trade workshops in South East Queensland — and it has been nothing short of inspiring.
One of the best parts of running our Try‑a‑Trade workshops has been meeting the deadly, up‑and‑coming women and young people stepping into trades with confidence, curiosity and big dreams. Watching mob have a go, ask questions, pick up tools and back themselves reminds us what this is all about — creating real pathways and showing our young people that trades are not only possible, they’re for them.
A welcome and unexpected surprise along the way has been meeting so many other organisations who are backing our young people too. From community groups to training providers and industry partners, there’s a strong collective effort growing around our aspiring tradies. A big shout‑out to everyone we’re partnering and collaborating with — it’s this shared commitment that keeps the momentum going and builds opportunities for the next generation of Indigenous tradies.
One of the big wins coming earlier than we expected has been reaching whole new audiences. That’s largely thanks to local First Nations people and community groups we’re meeting along the way, opening doors and making connections. This is already leading to real outcomes — including a school‑based apprenticeship — and it tells us we’re on the right track.
We’re busy connecting with people and dreaming up more creative pathways for mob who are keen to get a trade. If you’ve got ideas or want to walk alongside us, reach out — we’re always up for a yarn.
Together, we’re building something strong.
